COMMENTS about this page: I love analogies and object lessons: it seems such a natural way to teach. Object lessons are not only interesting but get to the basic meaning and understanding of the lesson. Object lessons are apt to be remembered longer too. Here is a good "nut-shell" lesson I have used often. This is my simple outline, you will have to fill it in. Grab a mirror.
The Bible can be likened to a mirror. In the book of James we have just that. (Jam. 1:23-24) "If a man looks at his face in a mirror . . ." (Be sure you have a mirror with you!)
Some parallel points to apply. How the Bible is like a mirror.
The Bible/mirror is inexpensive and available to all of us.
The Bible/mirror comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.
We use the mirror every day. Should we use the Bible every day? We start off in the morning using the mirror; that might be the best time to use our Bible.
The Bible/mirror shows us the truth. Truth is what the Bible/mirror is all about.
The Bible/mirror shows us what needs to be done.
The Bible/mirror does not do the job; it simply shows us what we must do.
The mirror is used to change our appearance and make us more attractive to our friends. The Bible is used to change our life and make us more attractive to God and our friends.
The Bible/mirror shows us a part of us that we have never seen and can never see. Our face.
Even if we don't like what we see, it still is the truth! We can deal with it and make the changes we need to make OR we can avoid the mirror altogether. What is accomplished by avoiding the mirror?
