COMMENTS about this page: When I have a little extra time I often spend it thinking in a variety of areas. These are my creative times. I don't regularly journal, I simply write my thoughts and observations down and number them. If I come across another's thoughts or sayings that impress me, I write that down preceded by #. Here are some that might make sense.

THOUGHTS AND IDEAS

  1. RECONCILE ... Strange that we only think of reconciliation on a vertical plain and do not include a horizontal plain. God to man without obligation to making peace within our horizontal society ... man to man ... or each other in our Churches. We Christians are called to be "peace-makers!" Man with God (V) ... and ... Man to man (H).

  2. WHO & HOW: "How" you believe is as important as "Who" you believe ... The "who" you believe is the person Jesus Christ. The "how" you believe is the doctrine of "true belief." Converting belief. The essence or seed of conversion is an honest & true belief or faith in Jesus Christ. Producing new birth, not still birth!

  3. There are the very few who dedicate their lives to a great cause and help change the world for the better and the great majority who spend their lives on themselves and create a world for the worse! A very few are givers. The majority are takers!

  4. If I could only tell the "would-be's" from the "will-be's"!!

  5. MISCONCEPTION! You don't make a person responsible by giving him responsibility! This will reveal him not make him! In a short amount of time you will find out if he is responsible or not. Not only a poor idea but a costly one ... Same idea ... you don't make a teacher by giving someone a class! You don't make a leader by giving someone leadership ... A common misconception in Churches.

  6. MISCONCEPTION: To pay a person for "part time" ministry! There is no such thing as "part time pay" ministry as if we can divide and regulate ministry into a certain set of hours. People and their needs don't fit into "set" hours. You can't train people to have their needs and problems at certain times. There is only "part time" pay. A person gets "part time" pay and always "full time" responsibility ... for he has to answer to the "apparent" success of his ministry which may require many more hours of work than his "part time" job description will allow. Part time and ministry don't go together. Ministry is for ministries sake.

  7. MISCONCEPTION: That the church is full of overworked people, and many of them are burning out from serving the Lord. That many Christians are tired and overworked.

  8. MISCONCEPTION": The Church is dividing the family! That the Church was created by God to compete with the family. That the family isn't included in the Church. Not true!

  9. MISCONCEPTION: That the church was created a collective body so that it could "Hire" its responsibility away ... so that it could collectively administrate it's responsibility to the professional, and get a better job done for the Lord. Together we have $$$$$.

  10. SELLOUT! Children are created to become adult ... to grow up and desire adulthood! To "ape" and "model: adult behavior and dress. One of the fastest and most effective ways to corrupt our youth is to make "sin" an adult activity! An activity that is looked forward to! Adult language, adult entertainment, adult programs, adult violence, adult smoking, adult beverages, etc. Kids mimic what they know to be adult speech and behavior! And we wonder why we have problems.

Children are told to grow up! Mother & father say "Grow Up!" School says "Grow up!" Peers say "Grow up!" ... Society says "Grow up!" To a child ... or kid, what does "grow up" mean? You can look like an adult, but not talk or behave like an adult. This equals a double standard and/or frustration. This will be reflected in the child's or kid's growing concept of integrity. We are producing problems!

  11. MINISTRY: Observations regarding ministry ... We are called to ministry and we can't have ministry without "ministering" It is the simple who need and often demand ministry! Ministry is seldom appreciated. Often expected. Often exploited. Always inconvenient. Always costly. Often an act of ministry is just the beginning of responsibility is the tip of an "iceberg" of problems! Yet ministry ... if it's done for the right motive ... and done wisely ... is very rewarding because it is not only helpful but eternal in a sense ... and fulfilling.

  12. In dealing with a person (brother or not) and his/her problems ... The motive has to be love ... The attitude has to be loving compassion. The mind-set must be wisdom. The action taken must be gentle. Doing for that person what is good and Godly.

  13. Issues we have to deal with. WHY I need to be saved! (Is essential to my salvation.) WHAT I'm saved from (is essential to a joyful, thankful and forgiving spirit) ... and WHAT I'm saved to (is essential to the understanding of ministry)

  14. No program or organization runs of its own accord. There has to be some one or combination of individuals that provide "energy" and "direction" especially in its initial stages ... as soon as "momentum" builds ... then the energy source can back off a little, but continue to guide.

  15. The church concept has many strengths and purposes, one of the greatest is the possibility of a united spirit or energy that produces the energy the individual needs to live a healthy Christian life. This strengthens the individual in his resolve to commit to Christ and to His ministry. This is the way God intended it to be ... us to be.

  16. The WORD is like a seed ... it is not to be framed, exalted and referred to ... but to be BURIED (sown) in the heart.

  17. AGE: How kids tell ... Hair ... gray/bald/receding. Face wrinkled/sagging/jowly. Body thick & fat ... Posture slumping. Walking slower/shuffle. Clothing old & out-of-date. I'll do what I can to look young.

  18. For light to shine, there must be darkness. For good to be, there must be evil. God deals with evil and evil men in a different way and a different time than we.

  19. What's worse ... a good communicator with nothing to communicate (toastmasters) or a poor communicator with a great message to communicate?

  20. Teaching isn't necessarily chairs & four walls where you sit and I stand ... you listen and I talk! That form of teaching may be efficient but it isn't very effective.

  21. Simple formula teaching: Looking for a simple "formula" Enables a person to teach others what he hasn't learned himself. Too often curriculum becomes just that ... a simple "formula." A "how to" teaching aid to help the unqualified teach the uninterested the irrelevant!! Looking for simple ways to teach lessons they have yet to learn!

  22. (L)LEADERSHIP OBSERVATION: The secret of successful leadership is "literally" becoming a leader of leaders ... win your existing leaders into following you. Every leader to be a leader must have followers. Those who have followers are leaders.

  23. A church body ... a community full of life giving vision, energy and power ... full of the person of Christ, makes all the difference in the believers "individual" life. He no longer feels obligated to share his faith but is inclined to. He no longer feels like a struggling individual but part of an excited, powerful group. He becomes part of a mutual strength.

  24. Our Churches would be full and running over IF we had what we claim to have and that in itself would be a great Gospel! It's one thing to claim a great Gospel, full of life changing power but quite another thing to produce that Gospel and power! In a sense we are great actors but poor performers. The Pentecostals to some extent produce what they claim in the way of a Gospel and that is good news! ... no wonder they are growing!
